Pictures from the past 2 days....

Evie setting up the camera ready to film!

A spot of blogging after a loooong day

Ellie setting up the camera for an ACTUAL scene!

Practice shoot - Day 2

sooooooooooo, today was out second day of filming. Evie stayed at mine over night which was lucky because we were able to have a relitively early start and plan things up. We could'nt get hold of Ellie so we decided to start putting the set up, we then found out she would be getting the train and would need picking up around three. A few hours later we got a phone call saying that she was unable to make it due to lack of trains and buses! Me, Evie and Ellie discussed that it would be better to get the basics done over half term while Ellie was away, and when she comes back to upload it onto the macs..see what we have...see what we need..and then go from there. By doing this atleast we will still have done some form of filmimg done over half-term, and by splitting it Ellie will still be a part of the filming which we want her to be. Anyway..Evie and i got a head with the filimg, the shots we practiced were close ups of faces and different expressions, the movement of the books next to the characters, hanging of the CD's. We also came to the conclusion that using sheets will make it harder to film because of creases etc so we would much rather use a wall as the background. However if out other location falls through then we could still use this as we know we have concent to do so. After packing up we thought it would be a good idea to film the old record player, howerver Evie came up with the idea of waiting until we have designed our poster/CD cover because we could link it nicely with these and really round of the presentation of our film. Overall...i feel it has been a very successful weekend with some highs and lows, we have figured out what will work and what will not!

To do for next week:
-PAINT WALL WHITE!
-organise character
-more clothes
-make-up
-lighting
-boards?

Practice shoot.

This weekend i have arranged for everyone to come to my house where we can discuss camera angles, props, costumes, lighting, backgrounds etc. As Ellie is going away it is essential that we have cleared everything with her and make sure that she is happy with all the arrangements. Originally we had planned to film on saturday, however due to s few complications we felt it best do get all storyboarding and discussions done and out of the way. The only bit of filming we have done today (saturday) is filming some dates to fit in with some of the lyrics in the song. we have also figured out how to put the dolly together and use it. Tomorrow will be an early start as we have to ensure we cover all aspects of the filmimg process so when it comes to filming we know exactly what we are doing and do not waste time. However if we need to do filimg after term we will do so but it means we will not have as much time to edit and make sure our edits are smooth.

Peliminary Task

This week in out practical lessons we started work on filiming for out peliminary task. Our teacher showed us a video of a group of students from another school. He then asked us to get into groups and film a number of shots where they would all link together in some way. I was put into a group of two with Ellie, and we managed to get the filming done in one day wich was very good. We then planned to get the editing for the task done in the next lesson. T he editing took longer than expected as there were a few issues at the beginning of the lesson regarding SD cards, however once they were uploaded onto the macs we started straight away. I hadnt really done this kind of editing before but luckily Ellie had done some for her video last year, so i watched her do it and managed to pick it up. Unfortunatly i didnt manage to get all the editing done in one lesson but did manage to get the majority of it done. We will have to finish it off when we get back to school, it won't take long to do now i've got the hang of it.

Peliminary Task

In our 2 practical lessons we have been asked to film a small peliminary task. I was put into a group with Ellie, and we had to film a small clip where we edted 4 clips together onto one edit. All of the clips had to interact with eachother in someway. We thought the best way to do this was to turn out heads (down, right, up and left) To do this we used out selves alternating who was in the clip, so we are in 2 each. We planned it so we got the filming done in one lesson and the other lesson was used to edit the clip together. I had never done this before so i found the editing alot harder! but because ellie had some experience we soon picked it up. Our clip will soon be finished but becuase there was some difficulty at the beginning of the lesson uploading our clips we lost a small amount of time. We will deffionatly have it finished after half term as it will take no time at all to finish off.

Location

originally we had planned to use a garage of some sort to place boards in and film, however this idea fell through due to lack of tidyness...i then came up with the idea of using a wall in my house as we are re-decorating and would be able to paint it white, this idea is'nt looking too good as we are knocking a wall down in our house and there will be too much dust and noise. I have found a location close to my house that we would be able to use but it will be cold and we will have to use a mixture of sheets and boards to create our background. i would prefer it to be against a wall but if we cant find a suitable location before saturday then we are going to have to use this location. At least we have somewhere to film!

Storyboard

Here are the storyboard that we have put together to create our film. We will use these each time we film new footage so we know exactly what we need to film, how we need to film it and what it needs to look like.

Research into The Ting Tings and The Shout Out Louds.

The Ting Tings are a Manchester and London indie pop duo composed of Jules De Martinoand Katie White They formed in December 2007 while based at Islington Mill Artist Studios in Salford. They have released four singles on their current label Columbia Records UK, including the single "Thats not my name" which charted straight at number one in the UK singles chart on 18 May 2008.The album We started nothing was released on 19 May 2008 and charted at number one in the United Kingdom. The album has now sold over 2 million copies, with a further 4 million singles sold worldwide. Their new single, "Hands"was released on October 11 and their new album, which is yet to be named, is due out in early 2011.

The Shout Out Louds -  Are an indie rock band from Stockholm Sweeden. The band's original name was Luca Brasi but changed their name when they found out that another band had already used the name. All members have been friends since they were young. The band has toured extensively throughout the world in support of their debut album "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff" Their second album, "Our Ill Wills" has been released in Sweden and debuted in North America on September 11, 2007. They have also released several videos from their various singles, the majority of which were featured on either TV Guide's "M-Vids" or AOL's Music on Demand services. The band's third album, "Work", was released on February 23, 2010.

Research and inspiration for our music video.

We have chosen to look at the ting tings to base our main characters on during our music videa  This is mainly because of the mixture of both genders. We feel that it would balance it out and would allow us to create some interesting scenes. To make it obvious that our characters are linked to this band we will have to ensure that we find filling actors with similar stature and features. Ellie or Evie would be happy to play these scenes as they both have blonde hair. We are considering who would be suitable to play the male part, although we havent currently found someone yet. We need to ASAP!

OUR song

We had a selection of songs lined up to use for out choice, we short listed a few songs that we felt would represent what we wanted in the video. We wrote to 3 producers in total and as we heard from 'Bud Fox Management' first we took the opportuity to get out song sorted so that we could start planning and brain storming out ideas.

As a group we have decided to go ahead with contacting the producers of the band 'the shout out louds' with regards to using thier song 'show me something new'. We felt that this song was well fitted to out task as it had the right tone - Happy and uplifting. We felt that the lyrics with in the song offered us many opportunities to link out video qith the lyrics.

Surprisingly the managers of the band 'Bud Fox Managment' got back to us with in 30 minutes of sending the message, the message recieved was very brief and to the point but none the less still clarified if we could use thier music. Here are the series of emails that were sent:

e-mails sent and recieved

Dear Weekender Records UK,

My name is Ellie Brown and I am an A level student at Saffron Walden County High Sixth Form. For my Media Studies coursework my group members and I have the task of designing and producing an amateur music video. I am writing to request permission to use a song by the ‘Shout Out Louds’ as the stimulus for the project. The songs we are deciding between are; ‘Show Me Something New’ and ‘Fall Hard’. The ideas and material will be completely our own, but we would love to be able to use either of these songs as the base of our project. The video will not be used for promotional or financial benefit, it is only for our A level coursework and will be shown only to the examiners and possibly other media students within the sixth form.

Thankyou for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Introduction to A2 media

For out media studies project this year we have been asked to develop a music video in small
groups. The video must be approved by the management team for us to use, we must also not use any of the original ideas from the music video to put into ours. With this in mind as a group we decided to choose a band that were less established so that it would be easier to get confirmation as soon as possible. It would also benifit us as less people would use our choice of song resulting in more original ideas. When brainstorming our band ideas we decided that the best genre music would be alternative/rock. We felt that this offered a much wider scope on how to film, we could also look at previous videos from a variety of artists to see how they filmed thier own videos, what colours, props, angles, singers they used in thier videos.
